Going on a date;)

If I can keep my 6 yo holed up in his room for a bit. LOL. I'm trying to flesh out my characters for my new story and really need to interview my hero. I need to know why he's so lost. He doesn't want to care about anything and hasn't for a long time. Until SHE walks into his life bringing a baby that he doesn't want, and feelings for living a life he never thought he could have. So maybe I can entice him to spill his thoughts with a warm strawberry cake, fresh from the oven. And a sassy blonde southern girl as the heroine can be a bit tempting.

Today will be a good day. I love creating characters and figuring out what makes them tick. Because the conflict has to be strong enough to make it to the end. On the other hand...you don't want it to be so complicated that it confuses the reader. It's the perfect balance I'm working to find. *sigh* I love my job.

I wonder if I can bribe little man to take a nap so I can be alone with Cash;)

I just had to laugh as I read your post! I often try to find ways to occupy my kiddos in order to get a little more writing done! In fact, last evening, my oldest son (almost 12) wanted to earn a little extra money, so he "babysat" my two youngest so that I could write! It was a great deal for both of us; he earned money, and I got some uninterrupted writing time!

Let me know if you come up with any other kid-occupying activities!

:) Good luck! I hope you have some good alone time. A quiet interview is key to understanding your characters, and it sounds like you're sensitive and that you care enough to pay attention. I'm sure it will work out.

Jody ~ I'm going to WalMArt this week and buying craft supplies. It's time to make Mother's Day stuff and that usually buys me a little time. I've been trying to get up with hubby at 5am when goes to work. That just makes me grouchy during the day:)

Davin ~ Thanks!! I usually interview them both for a couple of days and keep asking them 'why'. It helps to know little details we can layer in later when we need that emotional tag. It's just finding the time without allowing myself to play online;)

That's my problem,of making it too complicated that even I can't follow all the conflicts! Hope you find the time to figure out Cash!

Chelle - I just read your post at 5:30 in the evening because I didn't get home until 5:00. Spent the day at a coffeehouse, a mall food court and two libraries up by Darius's school. Got six pages written and a few things moved around (again). Sigh...

How'd it go for you today? Did you find out what hunky hero's problem is?

Oh, that's just divine. How fun that you're using this tactic to get to know your character better. I just love when writers work hard to know why their characters are the way they are and then give readers that little insight.

lol, my word verification is "questing"

Val ~ I've been guilty of making things too busy or complicated. I just love torturing my hero!!

Jennifer ~ I thought Cash Dawson was fitting for a professional bullrider;) Looking forward to doing the research too!!

Chicki ~ You got quite a bit done with having Lil D. Do you have him all week? I can't wait to go home so Mom can help me with Cayd.

Cindy ~ LOL! I love when the verification words fit us somehow! I have to interview my characters before I get started. SOmetimes it's not enough or they hold back and reveal a little secret down the road;)
