Hot and sultry...

Whoever it was that said summertime in the South was sexy and sultry needs to be shot. Seriously. It is hot as hades here. Good gracious people. 91 degrees with 94% humidity. I'm melting. Wilting...whatever. I may be a Southern girl, but enough is enough. I used to say I was born a 100 years too late and would have loved being a Southern Belle. Not. Can you imagine...summer in Louisiana or Alabama...yards and yards of cloth, petticoats, stockings. Forget the dainty umbrella and fan...get this spoiled brat an electric airconditioner. And I want my sweet tea with LOTS of ice. I'd definitely be one of those girls in the romance novel that is caught skinny dipping in the lake or river. Add my mouth and independent streak to the mix...and I'd be a spinster at 40 for sure.

It sounds like everyone's short term goals are doable. Keep at it!! Can you hear me cracking that whip? We're headed back home on Thursday so I'm pushing to do what I can by the time hubby gets off work Thursday afternoon. Next week when we come back to Louisiana, we're taking little man to see the alligators. I definitely need to make sure I'm getting up at 5am with Mr. Chelle so I can get my words down for the day.

Okay guys...back to work!! Have a good one;)

Your post made me laugh! I agree with the petticoats and all that. Puts the charming Southern belle fantasy in a whole new realm. Not my thing, I guess. Sweet tea, though, yummy! We've got beautiful weather here in Colorado. Mid 70's, dry as can be, and sunny. What more could you ask for?

I imagine that many of those southern belles remained skinny because wearing all that stuff was like wrapping one's self in a sauna suit or tin foil. They were sweatin' it off every day!

My short term goal is 1k per day for the entire month. I was really lax last week, but I've picked up this week and so far, I'm on target (although I still need to make up the 8k I missed already this month).

Ahhh...I'm so jealous. We're from Oklahoma and wouldn't you know it...it's in the 50's there. Figures:) Usually at this time of year it's up in the 80's. My mom lived in Pagosa Springs, CO. for a couple of years. BEAUTIFUL!! Watch when we go home this weekend...it'll climb up in the 90's or something. I'll have to have a jacket if it stays in the 50's;)

Patricia...don't you know that's why they changed clothes for meals. They had to be sweating!! 1k is a great goal. You go girl!

I sat down finally to do some writing and haven't had the chance yet as I have some emails to respond to---but hope to finish my wip this week!
And praise GOD we have some rain maybe here in Florida--hope it helps our heat too!

Jaime ~ Thanks for commenting! I have a crit partner in Michigan. It's easy to make good ole Southern sweet tea. Even if you can't steep the tea bags outside in the heat...put a couple of family bags in your coffee pot and run about half a pot of water through like your making coffee. Pour in a pitcher...add a cup (or to taste) of sugar or Splenda and fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water. Try that and see what ya think;)

Jennifer ~ Trust me, girl, if I could box this crap up and send it to you...you'd be nice and toasty on that beach. LOL.

Terri ~ I'm glad you found time to write today! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you guys get some of this rain. It poured today which made me love this humidity even more;)

Two words. (Besides those.) (And these.)

Move North.

Seriously. Right now, I'm wrapped in a blanket. Heat? Humidity? Ha.

Since I write historicals, I know exactly what you mean about not surviving! I dont think I'd last a day without my modern conveiniences! I'm spoiled too!

Remember it's on May, girl! You haven't seen anything yet. When it gets to be July you want to kill yourself.

I hate cold weather, so I love the early heat in the south. Every time I'm tempted to complain, I remember the last Memorial Day BBQ we had with friends before we moved to Atlanta. It was so cold, we had blankets over ourselves.

Jody ~ It's pretty cool do do the historical research on cultural aspects...cooking, clothing, housing. But then I stop and think about the differences and how they did things without our modern day conveniences. I know I'm right where I belong. LOL.

Chicki ~ Ya know, Oklahoma gets pretty hot and has that dry wind blowing constantly. But at least it's not humid and sticky. I hate feeling like I can't breath.
